Experience the Hillsboro Symphony Orchestra

We welcome you to our family of local musicians: a group who enthusiastically gives their time and talents in order to share their love of music with the community.

What is a symphony orchestra?

A symphony orchestra is a large group of classical musicians that include string, wind (woodwind and brass) and percussion players.

What kind of music does the Hillsboro Symphony Orchestra play?

HSO plays a large mix of orchestral works including symphonies, concertos and dances; along with more contemporary things like music from movies, tv shows and video games.

Who are the musicians in HSO?

The musicians of HSO are you local community members. They all volunteer their time and talents to create these performances. Get to know us.

How do I get tickets?

Visit our tickets page to purchase tickets online before the concert. Tickets generally go up for sale about 4 weeks before the concert. You can also purchase tickets at the door on concert night.

Where should I sit?

Anywhere you’d like. We most often perform at Hidden Creek Community center in the gym. We have found every seat in the house sounds great. If you want a view of the orchestra, we suggest you sit closer.

What should I wear?

Anything you’d like! You will see the audience in everything from casual clothes to dressed up for a night on the town.

Can I use my phone?

We ask that you silence your phone during the performance. Also that you do not take video and audio recordings during the concert. CDs for previous concerts will be available in the lobby for purchase.

You are welcome to use the camera function, without flash, during the performance. We’d love you to post your pictures on social media and tag us.

When should I clap?

This can be a tricky question. Traditionally, you applaud at the end of a piece. Some pieces, like symphonies, can contain several movements like chapters in a book. You would clap at the end of the entire symphony. The easiest way to tell is if you hear others clapping, join in.

Can I bring the kids?

Yes, we would love to bring your kids. HSO concerts are ideal to bring kids to since they are local, more casual and cheaper than taking them to something like the Oregon Symphony. We do have an intermission at every concert so everyone can have a wiggle break, meet musicians or head home if the concert is too much.

Is food and drink available?

Food and drink is not available. The facility does have drinking fountains and welcomes your water bottles.

How can I learn more?

If you have another question, we’d love to help! Email us at info@hillsborosymphony.org and we will respond.

What if I want to join as a musician member?

We are always looking for new members. Email us at join@hillsborosymphony.org. Your inquiry will be sent to the personnel manager and our conductor. Include what instrument you play and a little about yourself.

What if I want to join as a volunteer?

We would love to have you join our volunteer team. No music experience is required. Email board@hillsborosymphony.org with information about yourself.
